How to Find Your Android Device's Wi-Fi MAC Address

Modified on Wed, 15 Oct at 3:43 PM

This article provides instructions on how to locate the Media Access Control (MAC) address for your Wi-Fi (wireless) network adapters on Android OS.

A MAC address, also known as a physical address, is a unique identifier assigned to your device's network adapter. It's often required for network troubleshooting, registering devices on their respective virtual networks, or setting up specific network configurations.

Important Note on MAC Randomization (Android 10 and newer): Modern Android versions (Android 10 and above) use MAC randomization by default for privacy and security. This means your device may present a different, randomized MAC address to each Wi-Fi network you connect to, rather than its permanent hardware MAC address.

Steps to Find Your Wi-Fi MAC Address:
The exact menu names may vary slightly depending on your Android version and device manufacturer (e.g., Samsung, Google Pixel, Xiaomi, etc.), but the general path remains similar.

  1. Open Settings:

    • Swipe down from the top of your screen to open the Quick Settings panel, then tap the gear icon (⚙️) to open your device's Settings.

    • Alternatively, find the Settings app in your app drawer and tap it.

  2. Navigate to Network & Internet / Wi-Fi:

    • In the Settings menu, look for and tap on Network & internet or Connections.

    • Then, tap on Wi-Fi.

  3. Access Wi-Fi Preferences/Details:

    • For the currently connected network: Tap on the Wi-Fi network you are currently connected to. Then, look for a gear icon (⚙️) or settings icon next to the network name and tap it.

    • For general Wi-Fi information: Some devices might have an "Advanced" or "Wi-Fi Preferences" option within the Wi-Fi settings.

  4. Locate the MAC Address:

    • Scroll down the details or advanced settings page. You will typically find the Wi-Fi MAC address listed under headings like:

      • MAC address

      • Device MAC address

      • Wi-Fi MAC address

      • Hardware Information

      • Status (often found under "About phone" or "About device" first)

    • If your device uses MAC randomization: You might see two MAC addresses:

      • Randomized MAC address: This is the address your device is currently using for that specific network.

      • Device MAC address / Phone MAC address: This is the permanent hardware MAC address of your device.

  5. The MAC address will appear as a 12-digit code, usually in a format like XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX (where X can be a number or a letter from A-F).

Alternative Path (Older Android Versions / Some Devices):

On some older Android versions or devices, the MAC address might be found through the "About phone" section:

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Scroll down and tap on About phone (or About device, About tablet).

  3. Tap on Status (or Hardware Information).

  4. Look for Wi-Fi MAC address.
