What is a MAC address?

The isofy security premise is driven by MAC address authentication. Whether done automatically once you log into the isofy captive portal or if you manually add in the dashboard, known MAC addresses are allowed on the network.

So what is a MAC address?

We often compare it to a network fingerprint for your device. It’s a unique 12-digit number on each network interface.

WiFi only devices like smart TVs, tablets and cellphones only have one MAC address. Other devices like laptops and desktop computers may have two MAC addresses. One for their wireless network adapter and one for their wired network adapter.

If you’re connecting via WiFi, be sure to use your WiFi MAC address. Similarly, for hardwired connections, use your ethernet adapter MAC address or feel free to register both addresses if you use both types of connections.
