Adding New Devices

Devices Tab Detail

On the Overview tab, you will see a list of all of the devices you, or your users, have added to the system. Here you can search for specific devices and see when they have last connected to the network

You can also see which devices are currently connected to the network, or which devices have connected in the past 24 hours using the filters at the top of the page

Adding devices manually

Here you can add devices to the network

This is particularly useful for adding screen-less devices that cannot show the captive portal login page when connected to the network.

These devices include:

  • Printers
  • Smart TV's
  • Security Cameras
  • etc...

For devices that have screens and the ability to display the captive portal/login screen, it is much easier to allow isofy to automatically add these devices to the network when the user first logs in on each device. Thus, the following process of adding devices manually should only be needed for the above types of devices that do not have the ability to display the captive portal.

Clicking the Add New Device button at the top of the list will prompt you to specify the user and the MAC address of the device

Once you click the Add button, the device will be added to the network immediately. The next time the device connects to the network, it will be placed on the same network (or VLAN) as the user who you assigned it to.

If isofy says that the device already exists, check the Unassigned Devices tab for the device.

Adding devices via the Unassigned tab

The Unassigned tab is where you will be able to see devices that are not linked to a user (i.e. have not logged in via the captive portal) and therefore will not have network access. Devices that show up here are usually devices that are connected to the network and are awaiting to be registered to a user. This is especially helpful when adding a screen-less device.

To add an unassigned device, simply click on the device displayed in the list:

Here you can see the basic information of the device to help identify it, such as its MAC address, hostname, last seen timestamp, device class, and manufacturer. Once you are sure this is the device you would like to add, click on the Add Device button:

You will now be able to assign the device to a user in order to finalize adding it. You also have the option to add a device "friendly name" and any notes regarding the device. Once you have everything filled out, you can click Add, and the device will be added to its correct network and owner. If everything is done correctly, you should get a confirmation.
