Short answer: no action is needed. All ethernet ports are active by default with isofy. There is no process to "open" or enable individual ports. Any device can plug into any available wall port and will be connected to the network and place in its respective VLAN automatically.
What are Dynamic Ports?
isofy uses a dynamic port configuration, which means every ethernet wall port is live at all times. Members do not need to request port activation, and site managers do not need to submit a request to make a port usable.
What to Do After a Member Plugs In
When a member connects a device by Ethernet, the isofy captive portal launches automatically and prompts them to sign in. Because isofy authenticates by MAC address, a successful portal login links the device to the member's account and places it on the correct network or VLAN.
Screenless devices like printers, smart TVs, security cameras, and similar devices cannot display the captive portal, so they will not self-register. These devices will appear in the dashboard under the Unassigned Devices tab. Open the device from the dashboard, assign it to the appropriate member, and click Add to place it on the correct network.
For full instructions, see Adding New Devices.
Important: Ethernet MAC Address vs. Wi-Fi MAC Address
Every device has two separate MAC addresses; one for Wi-Fi and one for Ethernet. These are not interchangeable.
- When registering a device connected via ethernet, use the physical (Ethernet) MAC address.
- When registering a device connected via Wi-Fi, use the Wi-Fi MAC address.
Using the wrong MAC address is a common cause of device registration failures. If a device is not appearing or cannot connect after registration, verify that the correct MAC address type was used.
