This article provides instructions on how to locate the Media Access Control (MAC) address for your Wi-Fi (wireless) network adapters on any Chromecast Device.
A MAC address, also known as a physical address, is a unique identifier assigned to your device's network adapter. It's often required for network troubleshooting, registering devices on their respective virtual networks, or setting up specific network configurations.
The method to find the MAC address varies slightly depending on whether your Chromecast is already set up or if you're in the process of setting it up for the first time.
Method 1: Finding the MAC Address After Setup (Recommended)
This is the most common way to find the MAC address for an already set-up Chromecast device.
Open the Google Home app: On your smartphone or tablet, open the Google Home app (the app you used to set up your Chromecast).
Select your Chromecast device: On the main screen of the Google Home app, you should see a "tile" or card for your Chromecast device. Touch and hold (or tap, depending on the app version) this tile.
Access Device Settings: In the top right corner of the device's screen, tap the gear icon (⚙️) to go into its Settings.
View Device Information: Scroll down and look for an option like Device information or Technical information. Tap on it.
Locate the MAC address: Under this section, you will find the MAC address listed. It will be a 12-digit code, usually in a format like
XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX
(where X can be a number or a letter from A-F).
Method 2: Finding the MAC Address During Initial Setup
If you are setting up your Chromecast for the first time, you can usually find the MAC address during the Wi-Fi connection step.
Start the Chromecast setup process using the Google Home app.
When you reach the "Connect to Wi-Fi" screen, look for a More options icon (often three vertical dots or lines) in the top right corner of the screen.
Tap on it, and then select Show MAC address.
The MAC address will be displayed on your screen.
Method 3: For Chromecast with Google TV
If you have a Chromecast with Google TV, you can find the MAC address directly on your TV screen.
Turn on your TV and select the HDMI input where your Chromecast with Google TV is connected.
From the Google TV home screen, navigate to the top-right corner and select Settings (the gear icon ⚙️).
Select System.
Select About.
Select Status.
You will find the MAC address listed on this screen.
